What the helper adds on YouTube

The website stops at 1080p on YouTube. The helper works inside the YouTube page itself, so it can offer every quality YouTube has.

A download bar under the player

It sits right under the video on every YouTube watch page. No link to copy, no new tab.

Every MP4 quality YouTube has

From 144p up to 4K, and 8K when the video has it. 60fps and HDR versions are listed separately.

MP3, trimmed if you like

A second button in the same bar saves the sound as MP3 at 128 to 320 kbps, and lets you keep only part of it.

Shorts too

YouTube Shorts get their own download button.

No download limit

The website allows 3 free YouTube downloads per hour. The helper has no download count and no cap on video length or file size.

Thumbnails and subtitles

Save a video's thumbnail, or its subtitles as SRT, WebVTT, TTML or SRV3.

About the extension

A YouTube video downloader built into your browser

SaveVideo.net Helper is a free Chrome extension that downloads YouTube videos in up to 4K, and 8K when the video has it, without leaving the page you're watching. It installs in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave and Opera on a computer.

How SaveVideo.net Helper works

When you open a YouTube video, the extension adds its own bar right under the player. Click Download Video and it lists the MP4 qualities YouTube has for that video, with 720p and above grouped as recommended. Pick one and your browser saves it like any other download.

4K, 8K and MP3

2160p (4K) and 4320p (8K) appear when YouTube has the video in them, and 60fps and HDR versions are listed separately. The MP3 button in the same bar saves the sound at 128 to 320 kbps, and you can set a start and an end first.

More than downloads

The same bar saves the video's thumbnail, its subtitles, and a screenshot of the frame you're watching.

FAQ

Questions about the extension

Is SaveVideo.net Helper free?

Yes. SaveVideo.net Helper is free to install and use, with no account and no hourly download limit. A few extras, such as cutting the video itself, need Flixmate, a separate desktop app. Downloading every MP4 quality YouTube has, and saving MP3, need nothing else.

Which browsers can I install it on?

Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave and Opera, on a computer. Phones and tablets can’t run Chrome extensions, so on a phone use SaveVideo.net in your browser instead, or the free SaveVideo app on Android, which has no hourly limit on YouTube either.

Does it work with Shorts and playlists?

Shorts, yes: they get their own download button. Playlists, no: the helper has no playlist download, so open each video and download it from its own page. To see a playlist’s videos in one list, paste its link into the YouTube playlist downloader. With the helper installed, it lists every video.

I installed it but don't see the download bar.

Reload the video page once after installing. If it’s still missing, check the extension is turned on in your browser’s extensions page, and that you’re not in a private window, where extensions are off by default. The bar shows on YouTube watch pages, right under the player, and Shorts get their own button.

What permissions does it ask for?

It asks to read and change data on the websites you visit, so it can add its bar on YouTube and spot videos on other pages. It also asks to manage downloads and to store its settings. It doesn't ask for your browsing history.
